Behold Your God!
The Message of Christmas

1.) The Message of Christmas is a Message of Comfort
Isaiah 40:1  Comfort, comfort my people, says your God.
Luke 2:13-14 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!"
Luke 2:25  Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.

verb piel imperative masculine plural (piel= to busy oneself eagerly comforting)
Why?
A.)   Their Warfare; Toil, Bondage , hard service is Over- Peace has been Made
Isaiah 40:2  Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and cry to her that her warfare is ended,
Ephesians 2:13-14   But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. 14 For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility

B.)    The Price for their Sins has been more than paid for
Isaiah 40:2  that her iniquity is pardoned, that she has received from the LORD's hand double for all her sins.
1 Corinthians 6:9 Do you not know that the unrighteouswill not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality,2 10 nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

2.)    The Message of Christmas is a Message of Preparation
Isaiah 40:3-4  A voice cries: "In the wilderness prepare the way of the LORD; make straight in the desert a highway for our God. 4 Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill be made low; the uneven ground shall become level, and the rough places a plain.
Matthew 3:1 In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, 2 "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." 3 For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah when he said, "The voice of one crying in the wilderness: 'Prepare  the way of the Lord; make his paths straight.'"

3.)    The Message of Christmas is the Message of God’s Glory Being Revealed
Isaiah 40:5   5 And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together, for the mouth of the LORD has spoken."
John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

“The great sin of our race is to diminish God, but he has resolved to overcome al God-trivializing obstacles and magnify himself in our eyes through Jesus Christ our Lord”(Ray Ortlund, Jr. pg. 236)

Titus 2:11-13  For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, 12 training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, 13 waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,

4.) The Message of Christmas is the Message of God’s Keeping His Unshakable, Everlasting Word
Isaiah 40:6-8  A voice says, "Cry!" And I said, "What shall I cry?" All flesh is grass, and all its beauty is like the flower of the field. 7 The grass withers, the flower fades when the breath of the LORD blows on it; surely the people are grass. 8 The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.

People wither (Hezekiah), People Fade, but the word of the Lord stands forever

5.) The Message of Christmas is the Message of Good News of God’s People Seeing God’s Face
Isaiah 40:9-11  Get you up to a high mountain, O Zion, herald of good news; lift up your voice with strength, O Jerusalem, herald of good news; lift it up, fear not; say to the cities of Judah, "Behold your God!" 10 Behold, the Lord GOD comes with might, and his arm rules for him; behold, his reward is with him, and his recompense before him. 11 He will tend his flock like a shepherd; he will gather the lambs in his arms; he will carry them in his bosom, and gently lead those that are with young.

Hinneh (Behold) An interjection demanding attention, "look!" "see!

A.)   The Mighty King Has Come (Vs.10) where in a manger, in a stable, wrapped in swaddling clothes… Wow!
B.)   The Tender Shepherd Has Come (Vs.11)

Beholding Your God in all the Scripture….

Let Us Lift our Voices in Praise of God for the True Message of Christmas

The Name Above Every Name
A Sermon by Dr. David J. Brady

Introduction: Who is the most important family member or friend that you have in the world?
We are prone to take them for granted, we don’t think about them regularly and deeply, we don’t appreciate them, we underestimate their significance and value, We assume them and ignore them and loose our grasp of them.

Realize, Recognize, Grasp, Knowledge, Understanding, appreciate it,

Mountain Range of God’s Truth- Peaks of Election to Holiness and Adoption; Redemption through his blood, Illumination work the Spirit, Hearing and Believing the Gospel, Future Inheritance--- These verses are the Mount Everest of the Himalayas….

Not Put here primarily to say that we really live in order to see doctrine but that we see doctrine in order to really live… Power, Might, Hope… Unseen realities of the mind and heart that are fuel for day to day living… running out of gas? Look again… Look slowly… Look deeply… Look prayerfully…Look expectantly

We walk through life with eyes wide shut…Blind to the spiritual reality at work around us and at work in us….

2 Kings 6:15-17   15 When the servant of the man of God rose early in the morning and went out, behold, an army with horses and chariots was all around the city. And the servant said, "Alas, my master! What shall we do?" 16 He said, "Do not

be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them." 17 Then Elisha prayed and said, "
O LORD,

please open his eyes that he may see."
So the LORD opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw, and behold, the

mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

I’m praying for you

1.)                        Can you see it? (taste it, feel it, know it)
The immeasurable greatness of God’s power in the resurrection and ascension of

Christ…

Resurrection= not only reviving of a corpse but the restoring of a perfect never dying body…
Ascension= Enthronement (seated)

Ephesians 2:4-6  4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ- by grace you have been saved- 6 and raised us up

with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus..

Hebrews 10:11-13   11 And every priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. 12 But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, 13 waiting from that time until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet.

2.)                        Can you see it?
The immeasurable greatness of God’s power in the Reign and Name of Christ

Far Above: All seen(human) and unseen (demonic or angelic) powers..
Can’t be unseated, Can’t be stopped, Can’t be usurped, Can’t be overruled

He is reigning and ruling now…

Isaiah 45:23   'To me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear allegiance.'
Do you pledge total allegiance to Lamb upon the throne?

There is coming a day when every tongue will declare that Jesus is the King over all Kings, , the Prime over all Ministers, The Head over all Presidents, the Chief Shepherd over all chancellors and the Lord over all Lords…

One day we will see every knee bow and every tongue confess:
Jesus is Lord:
Politicians, Scientists, False Religionists, Secularists, Atheists, the Publican, and the Republican, the Pharisee, and the democrat, the unrighteous and the self-righteous, Westerners, Easterners, Southerners, and Northerners… Red and Yellow, black and white Jesus will be seen as Lord in all their sight…

I always hear this is the election that is going to change everything… I agree some elections are more important than others, but none no not one election compares with the election found in  Ephesians 1:4   4 even as he chose us in

him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him.
When God cast the only vote in choosing the Son as the Christ and us in Him…. That is one election that a cannot be overturned, there are no hanging chads, no computer malfunctions, no eternal manipulations, no run-offs, and no do overs.

Psalm 2:1-12  Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? 2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD and against his anointed, saying, 3 "Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us." 4 He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision. 5 Then he will speak to them in his wrath, and terrify them in his fury, saying, 6 "As for me, I have set my King on Zion, my holy hill." 7 I will tell of the decree: The LORD said to me, "You are my Son; today I have begotten you. 8 Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession. 9 You shall break them with a rod of iron and dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel." 10 Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth. 11 Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. 12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, for his wrath is quickly kindled.  Blessed are all who take refuge in him.

Isaiah 40:15-17   15 Behold, the nations are like a drop from a bucket, and are accounted as the dust on the scales; behold, he takes up the coastlands like fine dust. 16 Lebanon would not suffice for fuel, nor are its beasts enough for a burnt offering. 17 All the nations are as nothing before him, they are accounted by him as less than nothing and emptiness.
He is
Above every name that is named….
Our Lord commands us to live quietly and honorably in the kingdom of man. We pray for all earthly and God granted kings and rulers, we work for the peace and prosperity of our present nations, we obey all laws of our land that do not contradict the Law of our God; Yet we declare to all powers and all countries that their existence and rule is finite and fleeting..

That there is a Name above every name: There is a name above, Obama, Biden, Clinton, Kennedy or Pelosi. There is a name above Bush, Cheney, MCain, Palin, Romney or Reagan… There is a name above Osama, Mubarrak, Khomeni, or Karzai. There is a name above Medyevev, Putin, Castro, Mao, Stalin, Lenin or Marx.   There is a name above Benedict or John Paul. There is a name above Gates, Forbes, Trump or Rockefeller.
There is a name above Einstein, Newton, Galileo, Aristotle, Plato, or Socrates. There is a name above Shakespeare, Mozart, Beethoven, or Homer. There is a name above Moses, Muhammad, Bhudda, Confucius, Ghandi or King. There is a name above Hilter, Napoleon, Nero, Herod, Tut or Satan himself. There is a name above Brady, Smith or Jones. And it is the Name of Jesus

Can you see it? Can you feel it? Can you grasp it?

Revelation 11:15  "The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he shall reign forever and ever."

And tho’ this world, with devils filled Should threaten to undo us
We will not fear, for God hath willed His truth to triumph thro’ us
The Prince of Darkness grim We tremble not for him
His rage we can endure For lo, his doom is sure
One little word shall fell him

That word above all earthly powers No thanks to them, abideth
The Spirit and the gifts are ours Thro’ Him who with us sideth
Let goods and kindred go This mortal life also
The body they may kill God’s truth abideth still
His kingdom is forever

Psalm 110:1   The LORD says to my Lord: "Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool."
Psalm 8:6   6 You have given him dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet,

3.)                        Can you see it?

The immeasurable greatness of God’s power in the identity and role of Christ’s Church

Head-Supreme, Cornerstone, Source, Mind (by his word), over all things
Body- (carry out his presence, power and ministry) We are his ambassadors, We make Christ visible on earth… Not because he is insufficient but because he is gracious to share this great task with us…
Fullness-(Kingdom)
Filled-(King)

1 Peter 2:9-10   9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you
may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 10 Once you were not a

people, but now you are God's people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

4.)                        Can you see it? Can you see Him?
The immeasurable greatness of the power of God’s power in Christ Himself…That I

may know Him……..

2 Corinthians 4:4-6   4 In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. 5 For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake. 6 For God, who said, "Let light shine out of

darkness," has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
