What is the Gospel of Jesus Christ? Print E-mail

What is the Gospel?

That is probably the most important question anyone can ever ask.

The gospel is the good news about who Jesus Christ is and what He has done.
·        Jesus is the Son of God who was sent from heaven to reconcile mankind to God.
·        He came because even though mankind was created in the image of God we willfully choose to rebel against Him and break our relationship with God who is our Creator and King.
2.)    God is the perfectly good Creator and King and sin is at essence rebellion against Him.
·        God is perfectly good and as such His goodness demands that we be held accountable for our ignoring of Him and our rebelling against Him and his rules for what we should and should not do.
·        That rebellion the Bible calls sin and the awful things we see in our own lives and in the world around us are manifestations of that sin.
·        God will judge sin and since all have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory what are we to do?
·        Mankind has been trying all kinds of ways to get back to God on our terms but they are all dead ends. However, that bad news is not the end of the story.
3.)   What is the Good News about Jesus?
·         There is good news, great news, in fact the greatest news of all human history. The Bible puts it this way:  But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.(Galatians 4:4-5)
·        Jesus Christ, God the Son, came and took on human flesh and blood and lived a life of perfect love for and obedience to God the Father and perfect love for His neighbor. Even though he never did anything wrong he was murdered on a cross by rebels just like us.
·        On that cross, according to God’s prior plan, he took our place and our sins were placed on Him. He became a substitute for us and took the just punishment for our sins as God the Father poured out his righteous wrath against our sin on to his beloved Son Jesus.
·        In addition, Jesus’ record of righteousness was made available to be placed on all who would believe. The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 5:21 that,  ‘For our sake he (God the Father)made him (Jesus: God the Son)to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
·        After Jesus died he was placed in a tomb, but on the third day he rose from the dead by the power of God to declare to the entire world that He is the Way, the Truth and the Life and the only way to God the Father. He was seen by hundreds of eyewitnesses and their record of who Jesus was and what he did is called the New Testament.
·        Jesus ascended back to His Father where he is today praying for all who do and will believe in Him.
4.)   This Good News Demands a Response From Each of Us
·        This is not just good news to be heard it is good news to be believed. The Bible declares that the good news of Jesus was “…written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.” (John 20:31)
·        If you have read this message and you trust that Jesus is who He says He is then turn from your unbelief and rebellious ways and call on the Lord to save you by the blood of His Son Jesus.
5.)   What do I do now?
·        If you have trusted Him them you need to read more about Him in the Bible (try reading the Gospel of Mark), keep talking to Him in prayer, and quickly find a group of other believers (a biblical and gospel-centered church) were you can grow in your knowledge of, love for and obedience to Jesus Christ.
·        Contact us for prayer and advice on how to move forward in your new life as a follower of Jesus Christ.
·        If you do not yet trust Jesus I urge you to find a copy of the Bible and read the New Testament.  Pray to God. Ask, Seek, Knock. Don’t stop trying to understand, and contact us for additional resources and so that we can pray with you. Your soul is too precious to ignore.
6.)   Keep standing on God’s Promise

Romans 10:9  …because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
